Frequently Asked Questions about the Marietas Islands

How long does the ride to the Marietas Islands take?

The fast-boat ride from Punta de Mita Marina takes 15 to 20 minutes to the archipelago. Along the way there is a high chance of spotting dolphins, sea turtles and humpback whales in season (November to March).

Why depart from Punta de Mita instead of Puerto Vallarta?

The crossing from Punta de Mita takes only 15-20 minutes by fast boat, while departures from Puerto Vallarta take more than 2 hours. Less time at sea means less risk of seasickness and more time enjoying the destination.

What is included in the tours?

All our tours include unlimited hydrating drinks, full snorkel gear (mask, snorkel and fins), life jackets, a certified guide and a shaded boat with a trained captain. On 6 and 8 hour fishing tours we serve fresh ceviche prepared with the catch of the day.

What days is the Marietas Islands National Park closed?

By official CONANP regulation for marine ecosystem conservation, the Marietas Islands National Park remains closed to the public on Mondays and Tuesdays.

How does access to Playa del Amor (Hidden Beach) work?

Access to Playa del Amor is regulated to a strict quota of 116 daily passes issued by the authorities. We recommend booking at least 48 hours in advance during high season (December to April).

What should I bring to the tour?

Swimsuit already on (no changing rooms at the marina), towel, cap, biodegradable sunscreen and camera or GoPro with a floating strap.

⚠️ Official notice: the Marietas Islands National Park remains closed on Mondays and Tuesdays for conservation (CONANP). Access to Playa del Amor is limited to 116 daily passes.
